About Wood Coffee Tables

Wood coffee tables in solid wood, walnut, rubberwood, moulded plywood and black-lacquered wood, in rectangular, square, oval and pebble shapes.

How the wood is finished decides how it lives. Solid wood, as on the Duncan Coffee Table, a 47¼ by 23⅝-inch plank on square legs braced at each end, carries its grain through the full thickness of the top. Lacquer on the Madison, Ridgefield and Auden seals the surface while the grain still reads through, and the Avondale's moulded plywood leaves the ply edge as a pale line against the veneer.

Most of these tables are 47¼ inches wide, about two-thirds the length of a 71-inch sofa. Pick a height close to your seat: the Duncan stands 15 inches, below the cushion line of most sofas, and the Sutton Coffee Table stands 17¾ inches on pierced black legs that fold flat. Allow 16 to 18 inches of legroom in front of the sofa. For a square wood coffee table, the Hanley and Auden are both 35⅜ inches.

Use coasters and wipe spills quickly; the material care guide covers each finish. Narrow to walnut coffee tables, round and oval coffee tables or square coffee tables, compare Japandi coffee tables and organic modern coffee tables, or return to all coffee tables.
