Our Story

Rooms that sound
like the people in them.

Most homes get furnished by accident — a piece at a time, under deadline, from whatever was in stock. We work on the two things that change a room fastest: the table at the centre of it, and the light around it. You do not need a large home to do it well.

Hawthorne & Reed — an environment of clarity

“A considered room is not an empty one. It is one where everything standing in it had to earn the place.”

01

Our Perspective

We built this for people who notice things: the line of a leg, the way afternoon light moves across a grain, why one room settles and another never quite does. Good design is not decoration added at the end. It is the reason a space feels like somewhere you want to be.

02

Our Restraint

We leave out the ornate arches, the excessive detailing, the millwork and the crown-molding gestures — not because plain is safer, but because a piece with nothing to hide behind has to be genuinely well proportioned. Character comes from what is chosen, never from how much of it there is.

03

Our Relationship

We stand behind every order — if something arrives damaged, defective or not as described, contact us and we will put it right. Standard Delivery is free on every piece we carry, to your door anywhere in the contiguous U.S. We follow every order through to delivery, and we stay with it until it arrives. Your trust is something we take seriously.

Design Philosophy

Quiet in detail.
Confident in form.

The pieces we choose are quieter, cleaner and more intentional — letting the natural character of the material, the proportions and the architectural form do the talking.

Longevity

A piece that doesn't need to demand attention to be compelling. It simply commands it.

What We Mean

Not less character.
Less noise.

The Vision

We are not following trends. We choose pieces that will still look right when the current ones have passed — and that work as hard in a one-bedroom apartment as they do in a house.

Character replaces clutter.

Proportion does the decorating.

A small room chosen well beats a large one filled.

A home should read like the people in it, not the catalogue it came from.

Hawthorne & Reed is for people who would rather buy one piece they keep than three they replace. Fewer things, chosen slowly, lived with for a long time.
