About Organic Lighting
Woven rattan, ceramic, travertine and turned wood set the texture of this organic modern lamp collection, eleven floor lamps and twenty-four table lamps in all.
Height, reach and texture
For a reading chair, a floor lamp of roughly 58 to 64 inches brings the lower edge of the shade near seated eye level: the Alden, Salisbury and Whitfield stand 59 inches, and the Everly Floor Lamp 61 inches, its turned walnut-tone stem under a scalloped off-white drum. To light a sofa from behind, the Carrington and Odell fabric floor lamps span 59 inches on a long arm at 78 inches high.
Open weaves change the light itself. The rattan on the Harrington Wicker Table Lamp and the bamboo lantern of the Manchester Bamboo Floor Lamp let light through the sides as well as down, casting a soft pattern nearby, while solid fabric cones send most of it onto the surface below. The Shelby Stone Table Lamp swaps the shade for a 16½-inch metal disc over travertine or black marble, pushing most of the light downward.
Table lamps run from 9½ to 22½ inches. On a sofa side table, the 22½-inch Wallis Table Lamp, in glossy cream or concrete gray with an 18⅞-inch cone, brings the shade near eye level; on a nightstand, the 13-inch Waltham Ceramic Table Lamp hides the bulb under a deep cone.
